Human remains found in Arizona, information leaked to social media
The Gila County Sheriff’s Department said the remains of a woman were found off Highway 60 on Feb. 1, and information intended only for law enforcement was leaked.
GILA COUNTY, Ariz. — Human remains were found in Arizona, authorities said. They remain unidentified.
Gila County Sheriff J. Adam Shepherd said information regarding the remains of a woman found off of Highway 60 North at milepost 277, on Forest Service Road #355, on Feb. 14 was being circulated on Facebook.
The Gila County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the San Carlos Apache Tribal Police, began an investigation.
According to a post from the Gila County Sheriff’s Department, “it was decided that further information needed to be investigated” before alerting the public, and there was no indication that there was an active threat to the community.
“Unfortunately, the information on Facebook was intended for only Law Enforcement Agencies and was leaked,” the post read.
If you have any information regarding this incident, you are encouraged to contact the Gila County Sheriff’s Office at 928-200-2352, the Bureau of Indian Affairs Special Agent at 505-917-7830, or the San Carlos Apache Tribal Police at 928-475-1755.
