FROM WBOY

There’s a new restaurant in Clarksburg with a name that many long-time residents should recognize.

The original version of The Canteen closed years ago and was located on Milford St. It claimed to be the “Home of the Giovanni,” a popular sandwich in north central West Virginia.

The new Canteen is carrying on that tradition, but also with smashburgers, fries and milkshakes on the menu.

The original Canteen is where Walt Foster’s mom and dad met years ago, and what he and his business partner Jarrad Spraggins decided to name their new restaurant on Emily Dr.

Although much has changed in the decades between, the new Canteen wanted to make sure the Giovanni remained on the menu.

“So, we know The Canteen meant a lot to everyone,” Spraggins said. “And we wanted to bring it back and do something special for the community.”
