During New Zealand’s run-chase against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi on Monday, a pitch invader managed to hug Rachin Ravindra.

In a major security breach during the ongoing Champions Trophy in Pakistan, an alleged supporter of an Islamist political party managed to enter the field of play at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium during a Group A match between New Zealand and Bangladesh. The intruder, carrying a picture of Tehreek-e-Labbaik (TLP) leader Saad Rizvi as per news agency AP, managed get close to New Zealand cricketer Rachin Ravindra and hug leaving the Kiwi annoyed.

The incident occurred during New Zealand’s run-chase with Rachin and Tom Latham in the middle for the tourists.

Ravindra scored a fine century as New Zealand defeated Bangladesh by five wickets to enter the semifinal. The result also sealed India’s passage into the last-four and thus knocking out Pakistan and Bangladesh from the ICC tournament.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Intelligence Bureau has issued a high alert about an alleged plot to kidnap foreign guests attending the Champions Trophy for ransom. As per CNN-News18, the alert has been issued against multiple terror outfits including Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP), ISIS among others.

Pakistan is hosting an ICC tournament for the first time in 29 years. The BCCI refused to send the Indian cricket team across the border for the tournament citing denial of permission from the Indian government.

The bilateral cricket ties between India and Pakistan remain suspended due to diplomatic tensions between the two neighbours.

As a result of BCCI’s decision, the competition is being held in a Hybrid Model with the Indian team playing all their matches in Dubai. One of the semifinals and the final (should India qualify) will also be held in Dubai.

India have been impressive thus far in the tournament, beating Bangladesh and host Pakistan to advance to the semis.

The Rohit Sharma-led side will face New Zealand in their third and final Group A fixture on March 2.
