Bees attack, sting 10 people, send 1 to the hospital
A swarm of bees attacked a group of people in a neighborhood near 175th Avenue and Greenway Road, just west of the Loop 303 freeway in Surprise.
SURPRISE, Ariz. — A man has been sent to the hospital after being attacked by bees after checking his mail, according to the Surprise Fire & Medical Department.
SFMD said that a man was checking his mail on Monday near 175th Avenue and Greenway Road when he found a bee hive that he did not know was there. The bees then became aggressive and stung the man multiple times.

After firefighters got to the scene, they noticed a group of kids between the ages of 10-15 who were riding their bikes in the area and getting stung. The firefighters then ran over to the group of kids to get them into safety inside a fire truck.
During that time, five kids were stung and four firefighters were stung.
None of the kids were taken to the hospital as none of them were allergic to bees and none of them were stung more than twice.
A beekeeper was called to the scene to remove the bees from the area.
The man who was originally was stung “a large number of times,” according to SFMD and is being treated at a nearby hospital.
No other details were released.
