‘Non-answer!’ Lee Anderson blasts Yvette Cooper after Commons grilling over ‘nuisance tenants’
Reform UK MP Lee Anderson has taken to X to vent his frustration after Yvette Cooper gave him a “non-answer” in the Commons.
Lee was questioning the Home Secretary about “nuisance tenants who are making peoples’ lives a misery” during a session in Parliament.
While Cooper acknowledged the need for “stronger action” against anti-social behaviour in local communities, Lee made it clear afterwards he felt the response was not sufficient.
“The Home Secretary will be aware that councils up and down the country have real problems with nuisance tenants creating mayhem and committing crimes and making residents’ lives a misery”, he said.
Lee Anderson quizzed Yvette Cooper in the Commons
PARLIAMENT
“Does she agree with me that nuisance tenants should have a one strike and out policy?
“If they keep creating these problems, they should be out and local authorities should have no duty to rehouse them.”

The Home Secretary responded: “We need stronger action against anti-social behaviour, that includes whether that is havoc in town centres or off-road bikes or whether it’s nuisance neighbours making communities’ lives a misery.
“That is why this Government is increasing neighbourhood policing and giving the police and local communities much stronger powers to crack down on anti-social behaviour so we can take back our communities from the vandals and thieves making our communities a misery.”
The Reform MP followed up on X with a blistering tweet taking aim at Cooper.
“Nuisance Tenants”, he said.
Yvette Cooper’s party could be facing a by-election threat from Reform
PARLIAMENT
“Today I once again raised the issue of nuisance neighbours who are making peoples’ lives a misery.
“And once again I got a non-answer. Only Reform UK will keep asking these questions.”
It comes as Labour sweat over the threat Lee Anderson’s party poses in the Carlisle constituency of Runcorn and Helsby following the imprisonment of one of its ex-MPs Mike Amesbury.
A recall petition is set to be triggered after Amesbury was jailed for 10 weeks for assaulting a constituent in a drunken brawl.
The petition will need to be signed by 10 per cent of constituents for a by-election to take place.
Reform UK has emerged as a strong challenger in Runcorn and Helsby, with Nowcast models showing 30 per cent support, just 11.5 points behind Labour.
Electoral Calculus gives Reform UK a 36 per cent chance of winning the seat, projecting 29.8 per cent of the vote share compared to Labour’s 36.6 per cent.
Reform UK Chairman Zia Yusuf said: “The great people of Runcorn deserve far better than waiting six weeks for a recall petition to take place.”
Labour confirmed they will defend the seat, stating the party “took swift action” following Amesbury’s “completely unacceptable actions” and looks forward to residents “getting the representation they deserve.”
