Life Line Baptist Church offers warming center during Arkansas winter storm
Many warming centers opened their doors for those in need as Arkansas felt the impact of another winter storm this season.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — As the cold temperatures have made their way to the Natural State, several places across Central Arkansas including churches have opened their doors to support those in need.
“[In the bible] Matthew 25:40 [says] whatever you do for the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you do for me. And so we serve Jesus by serving those in need,” explained Levi Dade, an associate pastor at Life Line.
Life Line Baptist Church in Little Rock is a place that follows the message of going the extra mile and sharing the message of Jesus Christ with their help.
The church’s youth director, Angie Grubb, introduced the idea of doing something to go the extra mile. They decided to open a warming center that bloomed into a space meant to welcome anyone looking for assistance.
“I have never been to a shelter before that. They make sure you’re fed. The meals are always warm,” described Dakota Phillips.
The warming center can hold about 28 people and everyone fits into one bunkhouse room that is located on the second floor of the church.
Pastor Dade and Children’s Director Chris Davenport both shared how the camaraderie inside the church brings each person closer together in their time of need.
“Everybody’s getting to know each other up there, and it’s just a safe place. And you can tell that that they feel like they’re at home,” Davenport added.
From warm blankets, shoes, coats, food, and more, everything within the warming is donated.
However, something that’s not donated is the heart of those willing to serve. That’s what Davenport said keeps their work running.
That same message is felt through the testimonies shared by those at the center.
“They opened their doors to me, fed me, and kept me warm. They gave me clothes, and it’s just been an inviting place,” said Chelsea Pruitte.
Until temperatures rise, the church will continue to provide for those in need. However, they are still hoping to get a little help from volunteers along the way.
“This place is doing a lot of good work, and it needs all the help it can get to truly flourish and help everyone. They need all of our support,” Dakota said.
