UHC Announces it is Teaming Up with City to Create a Bridgeport Farmers & Wellness Market this Spring
FROM UNITED HOSPITAL CENTER
Starting this spring, the City of Bridgeport and WVU Medicine United Hospital Center (UHC) will bring the Bridgeport Farmers & Wellness Market to the UHC Campus, in a partnership to showcase UHC’s wellness initiative and local vendors.
“Bridgeport is a beacon for the rest of the state in health, fitness, and wellness,” said UHC President & CEO, Dr. David Hess. “So, as part of UHC’s 2025 goals, we have incorporated a wellness initiative to engage the community, as well as UHC employees and their families.”
The Bridgeport Farmers & Wellness Market will feature health and wellness education.
“This is a tremendous opportunity to celebrate the important role that fitness plays in our community,” said Bridgeport City Manager Pat Ford, who is also on the Healthy Harrison Board. “Bridgeport is the healthiest city in the State of West Virginia. This is a natural partnership that will continue to paint North Central WV in a positive light, while also promoting overall health and wellness.”
The Bridgeport Farmers & Wellness Market will offer health and wellness information, and programming for kids of all ages. It will be a regular destination event that caters to the challenging schedules of families. Unique items and home-grown produce will also be available.
“We are committed to promoting healthy eating and wellness,” said Bridgeport Council Member Clayton Rice. “We want to facilitate an event to serve as a platform to increase local interest in learning about these initiatives.”
The goal of the Bridgeport Farmers & Wellness Market is to create a vibrant community gathering place and to create a weekly event where individuals and families can come together to learn about health, wellness, and connect with vendors. Together, UHC and the City of Bridgeport will build a sustainable program for the communities they serve.
Editor’s Note: This is different from the Bridgeport Farmers Market, which is now the Brdigeport Harrison Farmers Market that will be opening May 18 at Charles Pointe and celebrating its 14th year.
