Thune: Remaining Trump Cabinet nominees 'have a path to get there'
Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.C.) said on Monday that he thinks President Trump’s remaining Cabinet nominees have a “path” to be confirmed.
“I think they all have a path to get there,” Thune said in an interview on NBC’s “Today,” when asked whether he thinks Trump’s remaining Cabinet nominees will be confirmed.
“Now, some haven’t had their confirmation hearings yet,” Thune continued, “so I always reserve judgment until they come out of the committee because that’s where they get the hard questions.”
He added, “And I think it’s important that that process play out, and I’ve guaranteed a fair process.”
The interview was conducted in the hours before Trump was sworn into office.
Several of Trump’s selections for this Cabinet have faced confirmation hearings already, from Florida Sen. Marco Rubio (R), Trump’s choice for secretary of State; to fossil fuel executive Chris Wright, who’s up to run the Energy Department; to former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, Trump’s pick for attorney general; to former North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum (R), nominee for secretary of the Department of the Interior; to Scott Bessent, nominee for Treasury secretary.
Others have yet to appear before committees, including Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Trump’s pick to lead the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS); former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (Florida), whom Trump tapped to be director of national intelligence; and Kash Patel, Trump’s choice for FBI director.
