GLENDALE, Ariz. — A newly opened food truck caught fire Thursday in Glendale after propane tanks reportedly exploded, police said. Making matters worse, family of the owner tells 12News the truck just opened last week.

It was a Malaysian food truck called Halimah. Family says the owner worked for months to get her business started. She finally got her license to operate last week and her brother-in-law said she opened up on Saturday.

He said he got a frantic call from his wife saying the business was on fire. The owner and her brother were working at the time and both were hurt. They were sent to the hospital with second and third degree burns.

Several relatives showed up to the scene and broke down in tears as they saw what was left of the truck.

12News footage shows that the food truck sustained extensive structural damage from the fire. The entire structure, inside and out, was completely charred. Neighbors say the explosion sounded like a severe car wreck.

The Glendale Fire Department says the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The incident was reported in the area of 59th Avenue and Bethany Home Road in the parking lot of a convenience store.
